SAIT is a secure workspace which grants registered users the ability to share information quickly about safety risks relating to defects of technical equipment between the European railway actors, as required by Directive (EU) 2016/798 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 May 2016 on railway safety.
In particular, SAIT supports compliance with Article 4(5) of the European Parliament and Council Directive (EU) 2016/798 and with Article 4(6) of the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/779.
The use of SAIT is mandatory for the Entities in Charge of Maintenance (ECMs) starting from 16th of June 2021 as stated in Article 4(6) of the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/779 of 16 May 2019 laying down detailed provisions on a system of certification of entities in charge of maintenance of vehicles pursuant to Directive (EU) 2016/798 of the European Parliament and of the Council and repealing Commission Regulation (EU) No 445/2011.
Although other relevant actors will need to satisfy the obligation in the Article 4(5) of the Directive, the use of Safety Alerts IT tool for them is still voluntary.
SAIT is overseen by the Agency. SAIT was developed, is hosted and day to day support is provided by Directorate-General for Informatics of the European Commission (DIGIT).
The current version of SAIT, up and running since 2016, is based on a technology which is reaching its End-Of-Life by the end of 2023. For that reason, the Agency is replacing the current system with a new one. The migration of the accounts is part of the process, but your current SAIT account is still working.
The Registers team and the ITFM team plan to deliver the new SAIT by the end of February 2023, with the intention to decommission the old system by the end of March 2023.
You will be informed of ongoing developments, in the meantime please continue using the SAIT you are already familiar with by clicking the link below.
