Satellite4Rail Conference Madrid

Published: 21 June 2023 Updated: 30 October 2023

After a successful first edition held in Vienna in 2019, ERA, EUSPA, EU-RAIL, and DG MOVE invite political decision-makers and leading experts in the field to take a look into the immanent introduction of satellite technology into modern railway operation.

Event
Date
Wednesday 13 September 2023, 09:00 - Thursday 14 September 2023, 14:00 (Europe/Brussels)
Location
C. de Alfonso XII, 3, 28014 Madrid, Spain

Against the backdrop of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA), the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA) and the Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking (EU-Rail) are joining forces to organise the second edition of the ‘Space for Innovation in Rail – Towards Satellite Based ERTMS’.

The two-day event will gather Europe’s major transport stakeholders, including key decision makers and the railway sector representatives across the entire value chain, debating the introduction of the European Union’s Space Programme assets in the railway domain. The main focus of the event will be on the European Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) utilisation for fail-safe train localisation within the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) evolution.

To unleash its full potential for decarbonising European transport, rail must integrate latest technologies to advance the digitalisation of the rail system, operate even safer, more efficient, and provide high-quality customer services. One central tenet of this strategy is European train control, and the future role of satellite technology therein.

Registrations are now closed.
