The EU is committed to become climate neutral by 2050. Rail transport represents the sustainable, inclusive and safe transport mode that can make a significant contribution to achieve this goal. One of the tasks of the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA) is to support the European Commission in the international dimension for the benefit of railways. ERA is fostering international cooperation with different world regions and international organisations to promote railways and exchange knowledge on regulations and best practices.
The webinar will provide success stories and concrete initiatives of international cooperation towards safer and interoperable railways. The two projects with the special dedicated funding by the European Union - IPA (Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance) and EUMedRail (EuroMed Rail Safety and lnteroperabilty Project) - will highlight the project achievements in promoting railway regulation beyond the EU borders.
In the current circumstances, it is crucial to highlight the importance of the rail sector and international cooperation to maintain and develop transport links with Ukraine. ERA stands with Ukraine and supports the actions of the European Commission and joint efforts such as the Solidarity Lanes. The discussion will also tackle further challenges and opportunities to enhance rail cooperation with the Eastern Partnership Countries.
