Biography

Stefanos Saroglidis started his career in 1999 as a Network Controller in the Operations Control Centre (OCC) of Lines 2&3 of the Athens metro, which in 2004 started a railway service to the city's airport. In 2006, he obtained his MSc (Eng) in Rail Systems Engineering and in 2009 he started working as an Operating Procedures Review Coordinator. In 2014, the Metro Operating company merged with the old metro Line 1 and the Tram operating company, forming Urban Rail Transit S.A. (STA.SY.). Thereafter, he hold various safety related managerial positions such as Quality and Certification Manager, Line 1 OCC Manager, Training Manager, Ticket Inspector Manager, Quality, Certification & Environmental Manager and since 2021, he is Deputy Director for Training. Throughout his career, he has been involved in various railway safety related projects such as reviewing and drafting standard operating procedures, emergency procedures, safety management system procedures, preparation and submission of safety certificates and safety audits. In 2015-16, he was a member of the working group that reviewed and updated the national technical rules regarding the authorization of railway vehicles in Greece. In July 2025, he became an ERA certified "Railway Safety Leadership" trainer.
