Railway Undertaking (RU)

Any public or private undertaking licensed according to DIRECTIVE 2012/34/EU, the principal business of which is to provide services for the transport of goods and/or passengers by rail. There is a requirement that the undertakings ensure traction, and this also includes undertakings which provide traction only.' The OTIF definition is similar: “rail transport undertaking”, or “railway undertaking”, means a private or public undertaking which is authorised or licensed by applicable law to provide services for the transport of goods and/or passengers by rail with a requirement that the undertaking must ensure traction; this includes undertakings which provide traction only.
