Passenger service
In the context of Network Statements: a train carrying passengers that is either in regular service or that has been requested for future operation on a regular basis.
Under REGULATION (EC) No 1370/2007, Article 2, "(a) ‘public passenger transport’ means passenger transport services of general economic interest provided to the public on a non-discriminatory and continuous basis".
Typical rail passenger market segments are urban (including metros, trams, and light rail systems), commuter (or suburban) services and intercity, which includes conventional and high-speed trains.
