Maintenance

Activity aiming to maintain something in good working order, prevent operational disturbance and/or uphold a given technical standard. EU definition (DIRECTIVE 2016/797/EU): 'The procedures, associated equipment, logistics centres for maintenance work and reserves allowing the mandatory corrective and preventive maintenance to ensure the interoperability of the rail system and guarantee the performance required.' EU definition (DIRECTIVE 2012/34/EU, recast) of 'heavy maintenance': 'means work that is not carried out routinely as part of day-to-day operations and requires the vehicle Regulation (EU) 2024/1679, Art/ 3: to be removed from service.' EU definition (DIRECTIVE 2016/797/EU): Works intended to maintain the condition and capability of existing infrastructure in a way that it provides a level of service suited to the traffic flow and a high level of safety during its lifetime;
