Gross tonne-kilometre of a train

Unit of measurement representing the movement over a distance of one kilometre of one tonne of railway vehicle, including the weight of the tractive vehicle (i.e. the total gross tonnage of a train). Included are the weights of the tractive unit, hauled railway vehicle and its load. Passengers and their luggage are excluded. Shunting and other similar movements are excluded. This indicator is collected from infrastructure managers. Also referred to as ‘gross-gross hauled tonne-kilometre’ or ‘gross-gross tonne-kilometre hauled’.
