Gross hauled tonne-kilometre (ghtk) of a train

Unit of measurement representing the movement over a distance of one kilometre of one tonne of hauled vehicles and their contents (gross hauled tonnage of a train). The weight of hauled railway vehicles is included, whereas the weight of locomotives is excluded. Passengers and their luggage are excluded. Shunting and other similar movements are excluded. If the net consignment weight is not known from the transport documents, notional weights may be used by type of railway vehicle. This indicator is collected from railway undertakings. Also referred to as ‘gross tonne-kilometre hauled’. The notions of weight are not the same in traffic (related to wagons or trains) and in transport measurement (related to goods), as explained in the schema below.
