Biography

With a background in Computer Science and Product Development Management, Nico Schwan began his career as a Research Engineer at Alcatel‑Lucent Bell Labs, working in the telecommunications sector. In 2012, he transitioned into the railway signalling industry and has since held a range of leadership roles at Thales and Hitachi Rail, shaping product and technical strategies—initially for interlocking systems and subsequently for the broader railway system, including ETCS/CCS. Since 2021, he has been a member of the EU‑Rail System Pillar Core Group, where he is actively contributing to the harmonization and future evolution of Europe’s railway system.
