Nelson Oliveira is a Chartered civil engineer, specialised in structural designs and railway engineering. Alongside an activity as a private consultant in civil engineering, he has been in public service since 2001, in the port and maritime sector until 2013. From then on, he was appointed the Director General of the Portuguese rail accidents National Investigation Body. Since 2017, he has been the Director General of the Multimodal air and rail safety investigation Authority. He has been the Chair of the NIB European Network since 2020.
