Michiel Tom

Independent Occupational and Organisational Expert 

Mr. Michiel Tom has been working in the railroad system for 43 years. He gained experience in various operational and management positions. He specialized in railroad and occupational safety, in particular the integration of human and organisational factors. In 2023 he conducted a thesis research on cross-cultural communication, cooperation and safety awareness in cross-border operating railway construction personnel on behalf of Swietelsky Rail Benelux BV.

Human Factors in railway practice
On behalf of Swietelsky Rail Benelux did mr. Michiel Tom a thesis study on Human Factors in the Railway construction system. During the presentation the results of this thesis will be shared. This will include risks and conclusions regarding cultural, bilingual and safety awareness differences. Next to that will best practices and possible interventions be shared.
