Connecting Europe Days 2026
From 28 September to 1 October 2026, ERA took part in Europe’s flagship event for transport and mobility, held in Brussels, Belgium.
Barely a week after InnoTrans brought the global rail community together in Berlin, Europe's transport sector gathered again, this time in Brussels for the Connecting Europe Days.
As Europe's leading mobility stakeholders gather to discuss competitiveness, resilience, infrastructure investment and the future of transport, ERA was there to showcase its work towards a safer, more interoperable and more sustainable European railway system.
The Agency would like to thank everyone who took the time to visit the ERA stand throughout the event. The many exchanges, questions and discussions over the past three days once again highlighted the shared commitment to building a safer, more interoperable and better connected European transport system.

English (299.83 KB - PDF)As Connecting Europe Days 2026 draws to a close, the spotlight turns to the transport corridors that connect Europe and bring regions closer together.
Earlier today, ERA Executive Director Oana Gherghinescu joined the discussion on the Western Balkans – Eastern Mediterranean European Transport Corridor, highlighting how stronger cross-border links, interoperability and coordinated infrastructure development can contribute to a more connected and resilient European transport system.
For rail, connectivity is about more than infrastructure. It depends on common standards, harmonised rules and interoperable systems that allow trains to move seamlessly across borders, helping turn the vision of a Single European Railway Area into a reality.

Wednesday focused on some of the key building blocks of the Single European Railway Area: ERTMS, high-speed rail and investment.
Throughout the day, visitors met ERA representatives at the Agency’s stand and followed discussions on practical experiences from ERTMS deployment projects across Europe. In the afternoon, Oana Gherghinescu moderated a major plenary debate on the future of high-speed rail and its role in strengthening European connectivity. The day concluded with discussions on mobilising investment for transport infrastructure, highlighting the need to turn Europe’s rail ambitions into concrete projects on the ground.

Ahead of the Connecting Europe Days, a dedicated side event on the ERTMS Deal brought together stakeholders to discuss how to accelerate ERTMS deployment across Europe. During the discussion, ERA Executive Director Oana Gherghinescu stressed that ERTMS is not the problem, but one of Europe's greatest railway success stories and a key enabler of safety, capacity and seamless cross-border operations.
