Currently, Fidel Santiago is policy officer at the European Commission’s Rail Safety & Interoperability Unit. He takes part in the conception, development and implementation of policies and related activities in the area of safety and interoperability of the railway system. Previously, he has performed similar roles in the European Commission in the domains of EU cybersecurity policy or digital public services (including semantic interoperability). He worked in the European Data Protection Supervisor monitoring technological and legislative developments with an impact on personal data. A telecommunication engineer by training, he has completed his advance technological education with a more holistic view of public policy and the European Union through his professional experience.
