Efficient Processing of Retrofitting Vehicle Authorisation Possible Thanks to High-quality Applications

“This case shows that if the quality of the application is right, and follows our guidance and explanations, then we can deliver the authorisation very fast”, explained Josef Doppelbauer, ERA Executive Director, during the meeting between ERA and DB Regio representatives, held today at our stand at #Innotrans 2022.

With an average processing time of 6 working hours, ERA’s team responsible to issue the authorisations proves that the Agency supports in concrete manners the European rail sector to provide better services to the European citizens, in line with its mission to move Europe towards a sustainable and safe railway system without frontiers. 

During the bilateral meeting was also highlighted that the collaboration between ERA and DB Regio is an excellent example of cooperation, and proves that rail is resilient and capable to adapt to market’s realities, to transform rail into the first choice of transport, and the backbone of future multimodality.

DB Regio’s CTO Michael Trumpfheller said that: “End-to-end transparency throughout the authorisation process is a key factor for this very successful collaboration. Due to a precise planning we are able to inform the authority about scheduled applications and therefore receive a quick response.“ 

All decisions following an application for authorisation of a vehicle type or a vehicle can be found in the One-Stop Shop (OSS). The applicant can only access information relating to its own applications. After its authorisation the vehicle type information is made publically available through the European Register of Authorised Vehicle Types (ERATV). Certain documents forming part of the authorisation process are also made publically available through the European Railway Agency Database of Interoperability and Safety (ERADIS).
