The movement of goods in one and the same ITU (see G.II-01), which uses several modes of transport successively without handling the goods themselves when changing modes. By extension, the term intermodality has been used to describe a system of transport whereby two or more modes of transport are used to move the same unit in an integrated manner, without loading or unloading the goods, in a door-to-door transport chain
