Mitchell van Balen works in ERA’s analysis team on impact assessments and data analyses. He chaired ERA’s task force on data quality. He worked previously as a transport economist in academia and consultancy on policy evaluations and cost benefit assessments for large-scale transport projects. He has a PhD in Applied Economics from the University of Brussels (VUB).

Data Quality in Railways: Issues and Opportunities

Railway organisations are collecting and sharing data for several purposes to various actors. The multiplicity of communication channels, definitions and timelines puts strains on the quality of the data that is provided. The presentation shall highlight observed issues, how they are targeted today, and how they could be resolved in the future.
