Biography

Amélia Areias is Head of the railway National Safety Authority (NSA) in Portugal. Prior to her current position, Amélia worked as an advisor to the Secretary of State for Infrastructure in Portugal, as a signalling designer and certification manager for a leading European manufacturer, as a policy officer in the European Commission, as an advisor for a Member of the European Parliament and as a national contact point for transport research projects in the Portuguese agency for research. Amélia is a is a Civil Engineer and participated in research projects using finite element analyses to model high-speed railway infrastructures.
