Europe Day 2026

Every year on 9 May, Europe celebrates the values that have shaped our Union: freedom, equality, democracy and solidarity. These principles have guided the European project since its foundation and continue to inspire our collective work today. These principles guide not only Europe’s political project but also its ambition to remain connected, resilient and independent.

The EU Agency for Railways contributes to this mission by supporting a safe, interoperable and sustainable European rail system. Rail plays a central role in connecting people and regions, strengthening the Single Market, and supporting Europe’s economic and strategic resilience.

Common future

Through the implementation of the Single European Railway Area (SERA), ERA helps ensure that Europe remains open, mobile and united, where citizens can travel freely, businesses can operate across borders, and innovation can flourish.

On Europe Day, we celebrate not only our shared history but also our common future. A future built on democracy, cooperation and the determination to protect what matters most to Europeans.

The EU Agency for Railways is proud to contribute to this collective effort, strengthening Europe’s transport system, supporting its independence, and helping build a safer, more connected and more resilient Union.
