The Agency is pleased to present the new Generic ETCS Driver’s Handbook, updated with Baseline 4, available online and in Word and HTML formats. It presents existing CCS TSI and OPE TSI content in a concise, user-friendly format.

News

The ERTMS Generic Driver’s Handbook has been updated to reflect the latest regulatory and technical developments, following the release of the new CCS TSI (Reg. 2023/1695). This new edition aligns with Baseline 4 Release 1 (up to system version 3.0), while continuing to support Baseline 3.

What’s New?

  • New sections including Automatic Driving and Supervised Manoeuvres.
  • Online HTML version – no installation required, with improved navigation, search functions, videos, and animations.
  • Corrections of previously identified errors.
  • Updated Customisation & Maintenance Guide to support easier tailoring and upkeep.
  • Traceability tables of all Handbook clauses

Scope

The handbook serves as a concise reference for the operation of ETCS on-board units, supporting training, certification, and the development of dedicated drivers’ manuals. It covers Baseline 3 and 4 OBUs, all operating levels, modes, and screen technologies.

Important note: this handbook does not introduce new specifications. It extracts and presents relevant content from existing CCS TSI and OPE TSI documents in a clear and user-friendly format for drivers.

Developed in cooperation with Transurb SA, under contract with the Agency, the updated handbook is available in open-source Word and HTML formats, including for the first time an online version accessible directly from the ERA website.
