Biography

Jo De Bosschere started his career back in 1991 as a signalling engineer at Infrabel. He held several managerial positions at Infrabel, in 2007 he became manager for ETCS projects, being responsible for the ETCS roll-out and deployment strategy for the Belgian Network. He was one of the main authors of the ERTMS masterplan of Infrabel, this plan described the strategy for interlocking renewal and ETCS deployment, the needed resources (financial and human), the high-level planning of the roll-out projects to achieve an accelerated and full ETCS deployment on the Belgian Network by 2025. In 2015 he became Head of Signalling projects being accountable for all signalling projects and with main focus on the execution of the ERTMS Masterplan.

In March 2021 he joined the European Union Agency for Railways as Head of the ERTMS unit. The main responsibility of the unit is guiding the evolution of ERTMS specifications by producing the recommendations to the EC leading to updates of the CCS TSI. The focus in the next years is on the integration of FRMCS in the legal framework (CCS TSI) and further harmonisation of engineering rules.

Jo De Bosschere holds a Master of Science in Electromechanical Engineering – Mechanical Construction (1990) and is a Fellow of Institute for Railway Signal Engineers since June 2008.
