The Matrix is a tool created by the Agency to measure the maturity levels of railway safety within Member States and across the European Union.
The Matrix helps individual Member States to better understand their strengths and weaknesses. Where they choose to share the results with other Member States it helps in the promotion of best practice and for the Agency it provides a way of identifying areas that should be prioritised in the work programme. Six Member States have already participated in a pilot programme and reported that the experience was valuable. The final report on the Matrix Pilot project is available.
The Matrix is based on research of risk regulation regimes; If you are interested in learning more about that, feel free to have a look at the DNV report.
Leaflets, in which you will find more information on the structure and use of the Matrix are available in several languages.
