Only 22% of transport workers are women. In railways, women account for only 21% of the workforce. This is far below the share in the overall labor market (46%). The European Union Agency for Railways is committed to take concrete actions to promote diversity and close the gender gap.

Some of the Agency’s initiatives in order to boost gender parity are rather tangible and quantifiable like the organisation of a participatory gender audit, the speed networking sessions or the signature of the EUAN diversity and inclusion charter. Some others, despite being less tangible are equally or even more important. We put a lot of focus on improving our internal communication to address the unconscious gender bias. This relates to all out internal and external documents including the recruitment procedure where we strive to get a gender-neutral language.

The rail sector needs to empower women. Let’s work together to make the railway sector more gender balanced!
