Cooperation with organisations

The Agency shall ensure coordination between the development of TSIs and the development of the relevant European standards and establish the necessary contacts with European standardisation bodies:

    CEN
    European Committee for Standardisation

    CENELEC
    European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation

    ETSI
    European Telecommunications Standards Institute

The Agency issues the necessary requests for development of new standards, in application of the general mandate given by the Commission to the standardization bodies.

The Interoperability Unit cooperates also with Notified Bodies (NoBos) in order to collect feedback on the exercise of their duties in relation to the TSIs and propose the appropriate improvements, so that the conformity assessment is improved.

The Agency is in contact with NB-RAIL – the co-ordination group of notified bodies for railway products and systems. The notified bodies are independent organisations responsible for assessing the conformity of products and sub-systems with regard to the requirements of the Directives on the Interoperability.

The NB-RAIL representatives participate in the "Conformity Survey Group" (CSG), established in the Agency, and ERA representatives are invited to the NB-RAIL plenary and strategic subgroup meetings, as well as in the subsystem subgroups.

On 26 of May 2011 a  Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the European Railway Agency and the Coordination Group of Notified Bodies (NB Rail)  in which the Agency assumed the role of Technical Secretariat, assisting the Chairman of NB Rail in carrying out his/her duties.
