Published: 05 November 2025

The Agency is looking for independent experts to apply to its Call for Expression of Interest, supporting tasks that improve interoperability, safety, and sustainability in European rail.

News

The European Union Agency for Railways invites experts to participate in its latest Call for Expression of Interest. This is an opportunity to contribute to the future of European rail, supporting a sector that is safer, more efficient, and sustainable.

Working on behalf of ERA

Pursuant to this call, ERA aims to establish a list of external independent experts who may be called upon to support in specific technical tasks in the field of Vehicle Authorisation. ERA may engage such experts to provide operational, technical, and/or scientific inputs to other activities, notably in relation to the development and implementation of EU rail legislation (including but not limited to specifications for interoperability, training and dissemination, monitoring and authority tasks) consistent with ERA's mission to move Europe towards a sustainable and safe railway system without frontiers.

How to apply

  • Read carefully all the call documents on the EU Funding & Tenders Portal.
  • Submit your expression of interest preferably in English or French.
  • Include the reference ERA-2025-30-CEI in the subject line.

Remuneration and work conditions

  • Experts are remunerated at a fixed rate of 600 euros per day worked.
  • Work is performed fully remotely using ERA’s web-based One Stop-Shop or other digital collaboration tools.

Encouragement for German-speaking experts

Because of the current and anticipated workload of applications, ERA particularly encourages ERTMS (ETCS and GSM-R) and German-speaking experts (minimum B2 level) to apply. Your expertise will support the Agency’s work across Europe and help deliver interoperable, safe, and efficient rail solutions.
