Promoting Employment in the Railway Sector

On 7 June 2023, the ReTrain Rail event organised by Rail Forum Europe took place at the European Parliament in Brussels.

MEPs from across the EP's committees, rail stakeholders and ERA shared their expertise and contributed to the discussions on promoting employment in the railway sector, enhancing education and training opportunities, advocating for digital skills development, encouraging sustainable initiatives, ensuring equal employment opportunities, and devising a unified European skills strategy to overcome cross-border challenges hindering efficient operations.
“Rail sector needs to empower women and modernise in terms of gender balance”. ERA has launched a participatory gender audit to improve gender equality.
“Rail sector has to make an attractive offer to young people in order to attract new talent”. ERA has hosted a webinar on attracting talent to railways and is actively supporting many initiatives to promote the sector to young people.
Attracting talent to the railway sector is key to secure its bright future as provider of sustainable mobility and employment in the EU.
In 2021, we had the European Year of Rail, in 2022 the European Year of Youth, and in 2023, the European Year of Skills – combining these issues is at the heart of our initiative, so let’s all work together to keep the future of our sector bright and prosperous!
