Safety Reporting:  CSI  -  CST  -  Performance Report  -  Accident Investigation  -  NIB Network

Railway accidents and safety risks are reported to the agency and published in our database. We do safety analysis of accident trends based on accident data and accident investigation reports on a European level.

The network of national investigation bodies develop classification of accident causes, investigation methods and safety recommendations guidance with the support of the Agency.

 Overiew of our tasks

Collect and make publicly available safety indicators measuring safety performance on the railways.

Develop indicators as laid down in the Safety Directive.

Report on safety and safety performance on the railways in the European Union.

Promote a common understanding of the European approach to accident investigation.

Support the independent accident investigation process in the Member States.

Communicate lessons learned from serious accidents.

Co-ordinate the network of the national investigation bodies (NIBs).

Develop common approaches and methods to accident investigation.

To collect and make publicly available:
- drivers licences
- safety certificates for Railway Undertakings
- notifications and investigation reports
- national safety rules
- common safety indicators

Develop common targets for the safety performance of the European railways, and methods to assess the achievement of these targets. The purpose of this is to ensure that the safety levels are at the very least maintained in every EU Member State.

This will contribute to a progressive harmonization of safety performances within the EU, as target areas will be identified where improvements may be necessary.
