I have the pleasure to announce the appointment of Thierry Breyne as new Head of the Safety Unit as from 1st September 2011

Thierry Breyne joined the Agency in 2005 as Project Officer in the Safety Unit and moved in 2007 to the position of Head of the Safety Assessment Sector where the Common Safety Methods on risk assessment and on monitoring as well as the Common Safety Targets were developed.

Before joining the Agency, Thierry Breyne worked for ALSTOM Transport where he was managing the safety assurance resources of the Belgian site dealing with, among others, the ERTMS projects.

As the Head of the Safety Unit, Thierry Breyne will lead and manage around 35 staffs and will report directly to the Executive Director.

Thierry Breyne’s main tasks and challenges will be to ensure the continuity and to lead the Safety Unit through a new phase consisting for the unit to broadly disseminate the already developed measures and to follow their efficiency.

The European Railway Agency and myself wish Thierry Breyne all the best in its new function.

Marcel Verslype,
Executive Director
